![]() ![]() ![]() There's always multiple paths to get anywhere, TONS hidden nooks with powerups and other, important items, and plenty of very demanding shortcuts that make speedrunning a breeze, but only if you're quick enough to catch them. The original Sonic games have some of the most open, sprawling environments in any sidescrolling platformer. Once you sat down with a Sonic game, however, you realized that its strength is in the level design. The old Sonic games were, at first sight, impressive because of the sheer speeds and sometimes frantic gameplay they would throw at you, completely unlike any platform that had existed up until that point. Glad to see the speed vs exploration already in the comments.
